A reminder of the Great Patriotic War: projects implemented in Kuban often involve mine clearance in the area
November 8, 2018 Moscow — PJSC Evropeyskaya Elektrotekhnica (hereinafter, the Company), a leading company in the Russian engineering market, had to deal with the effects of military operations that took place during World War II (known in Russia as the Great Patriotic War) in Krasnodar Krai.
On November 5, artillery shells from Great Patriotic War were detected during the excavations (digging the trenches for laying cable lines) near Krymsk and the Adagum River (Krymsky district in Krasnodar Krai).
The shells were removed, and are being disposed of by the Novorossiysk garrison unit 42091.
According to the military recruitment service of Krymsky district in Krasnodar Krai, about 1,500 different types of explosive items are detected in this district each year. During Great Patriotic War, fascist troops established the so-called Kuban bridgehead (“Blue line” or Kuban-Brückenkopf) here — the system of defense lines of Hitler's troops on the Taman Peninsula. The artillery shells were detected near the second line of defense as part of this defense system.
Since November 2018, Evropeyskaya Elektrotekhnica has been carrying out work in Krasnodar Krai. This involves engineering and construction work for phase 3 of a project to install a water conduit from pumping station 3 to the PK120 Troitsky collective water supply system. In accordance with the contract concluded with the customer — the Krasnodar Krai administration — the Company provides electric power supply, automation and electrochemical protection for the facility, undertaking the following tasks:
-
delivery of materials and equipment, assembly,
-
earthworks with preparation of ground work for power control and automation cabinets (control rooms),
-
digging the 13 kilometer long trenches to the wells with motor operating valves (MOVs),
-
merging the system and setting up the controls at the operator's workplace at the main pumping station,
-
and developing software for control over all facilities being installed.
The need to carry out bomb disposal has moderately affected the work schedule for this project.
REFERENCE:
This year marked 75 years since the Kuban bridgehead (“Blue line” or Kuban-Brückenkopf) was breached — the toughest German defensive line on the Taman Peninsula in WWII — and Kuban was freed from fascist invaders.
There were only three lines of defense like this during World War II: the Maginot Line in France, the Mannerheim Line in Finland, and the Kuban bridgehead in Kuban.
Germans began building the Kuban bridgehead in February of 1943, and in four months managed to create a powerful defensive line in the lower reaches of the Kuban River, just before Soviet troops started marching out. The Kuban bridgehead was 6 kilometers deep. The defensive line began at the Azov reed beds near Verbanaya Kosa in the Sea of Azov, passing through the estuaries, down the Kurka River and swamplands, along the Adagum River to Kievskaya station, and ended at the Black Sea. The enemy prepared 10 defensive positions at a distance ranging between 5 and 25 kilometers from each other, all the way from Kuban and the Taman Peninsula to Kerch Strait.
The Red Army managed to break through this defense system by the start of October 1943.
